Actor, Director

Shawna Mefferd Kelty's performances onstage have been numerous and varied from classical to contemporary roles.  Recently, she was lucky enough to be a part of the ensemble cast of the world premiere of Milbre Burch's Holding Up the Sky.  She has directed several original plays for the University of Missouri Department of Theatre.  She made her directorial Off-Broadway debut in the York Theatre's Mizzou on Broadway production of Truckers and Parents in 2002.

In addition to her performance credits, Shawna was the Artistic Director of InterAct Teen to Teen Theater from 2004-2007.  She is a current member of MU's Interactive Theatre Troupe, serving as both actor and facilitator.  She also has been teaching theatre performance and production courses for the last ten(ish) years at the University of Missouri (1998 to present) and Central Methodist University (2005-2007).

Shawna completed her PhD in Theatre at the University of Missouri May 2009 and has begun the "job search".  Currently, she teaches a Carnegie theatre course for the Journalism School and supervises the scene shop.  While normally comfortable divulging personal information in a public forum, Shawna is resisting the urge to tell you more about herself - like her hobbies, phobias and fixations.  She's saving it for another time. Instead, she leaves you with a quote from one of her heroes, John Patrick Shanley as well as a quote and link to her favorite musician, Bob Schneider.

"Act from the depth of your feeling imagination.  Act for celebration, for search, for grieving, for worship, to express that desolate sensation of wandering through the howling wilderness.  Don't worry about Art.  Do these things and it will be Art."

"And I don't know why life, it seems to be, so hard for dreamers like you and me when love is, love is, love is everywhere." BobSchneider
