Productions to be announced soon.  Very soon.  The upcoming season is breathing down our necks like a creepy fanged furry creature lurking in the shadows and dripping drool onto our shoulders.  Keep checking back with us.

Dead Man’s Cell Phone

Auditions will consist of cold readings.

An incessantly ringing cell phone in a quiet café. A stranger at the next table who has had enough. And a dead man-with a lot of loose ends. So begins Dead Man's Cell Phone, a wildly imaginative new comedy by playwright Sarah Ruhl, recipient of a MacArthur "Genius" Grant and Pulitzer Prize finalist for her play The Clean House. A work about how we memorialize the dead-and how that remembering changes us-it is the odyssey of a woman forced to confront her own assumptions about morality, redemption, and the need to connect in a technologically obsessed world.

4 Women: 2 - 30s/ 1 - 30s-50s, 1 - 60s

IAT is accepting submissions for our 2nd annual short Women's Play Festival.  Here are the guidelines:
1.  No longer than 15 minutes in length.
2.  Small cast.
3.  Low or no tech requirements.
4.  Unproduced works.
5.  Deadline: Since we have been inundated with submissions, we are bumping up our deadline to November 15, 2009.
6.  No more than 2 submissions per playwright.

The season is nearly complete - we're putting the final touches on a few things such as spaces and dates....then it's all yours.  There will be plays.  There will be classes.  There may be classy plays...maybe.  Soon, my sweet, soon.

Season Three - almost!
All I can say is this: there will be plays, there will be a 2nd annual short Women's Play Festival, and there may be some surprises.  We'll announce by the end of July.

Theatre NXS focuses on works on the "lighter side of edgy," and will continue to add much appreciated diversity to the theatrical events on offer in the ever-growing Columbia arts and performance scene. Whereas IAT, as you probably know, is a nomadic troupe by nature, Theatre NXS is looking to acquire a permanent performance space. This new space is much needed in Columbia, as more performance groups and performers look for spaces to share their work with the public. Independent Actors Theatre fully supports the Theatre NXS goal of founding such a space, and looks forward to partnering with Theatre NXS in the future to bring some our season into their space. The annoucement, included below, details an uncoming event that will help make that new space a reality. The event features new work, live music, and a silent auction. Theatre NXS is proud to announce the premiere presentation of Don Nigro's
one act play Further Adventures of Tom and Huck, as well as two 10-minute
plays also by Don Nigro, Jack in the Box, and Normalcy. Each performance
will include live music by local artists: Bruce Poe will rock us on Friday
night, and that performance will be followed by a dance party. On saturday
night Sutu Forte's magic fingers will perform two original pieces and George
Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. The Sunday matinee will feature some of the
best bluegrass around - Ironweed.  We will be serving refreshments and who
knows, there might be a few surprises.

Friday and Saturday nights the doors open at 6:30, with curtain at 7:30. On
Sunday doors open at 1:00, Ironweed will play at 1:30, and curtain time will
be 2:00. If you're on our donor list, admission is free, if not, admission
is $10 with reservation & $15 at the door. Our reservation line is
573-443-0577. All performances in the Mule Barn Building, 501 Fay St.

We will have a silent auction (email me to donate!). We will also be selling
beautiful Bola stacking chairs - used but in good condition - $300 chairs
available for $10-$25 (we got them at auction & they're too big).
